Core expectations

• Be respectful. Harassment, bullying, discrimination and slurs are not tolerated.
• Dystopia RP is an 18+ adult server. All players and characters must be 18 or older.
• Use English as the primary roleplay language and remain in character while in-city.
• Value your character’s life and roleplay injuries realistically.
• No RDM, VDM, FailRP, powergaming or metagaming.
• Keep IC and OOC separate.
• Do not interfere with downed players receiving medical treatment.
• Unsafe RP themes including sexual assault, suicide/self-harm roleplay and explicit ERP are prohibited.

Staff may act where behaviour violates the spirit of the rules, even if a specific scenario is not listed.

Full Rules

The following rules apply to the DystopiaRP community and outline expectations for players in-city (IC) and out-of-city (OOC) in relation to DystopiaRP. This includes but is not limited to: roleplay in the DystopiaRP FiveM server, interactions in any DystopiaRP Discord server, and interactions in other Discord servers used for the purpose of engaging in DystopiaRP.   


Rule 1: Show respect towards others in the DystopiaRP community. 
Behaviour which is not respectful to others and their experience will not be tolerated in this community. It is not acceptable to harass, bully or discriminate against someone for any reason. 

Targeting or attempting to intimidate someone due to any aspect of their identity, including gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, religion or culture is not inclusive or respectful. While in-city conflict with others is perfectly fine, this conflict should be based on actions, reputation and in-city issues. Do not use derogatory terms or slurs, IC or OOC. Basically - be inclusive with your language and behaviour. 

If a member of staff has approached you IC to discuss your behaviour, respectfully listen to and respond to them. Failing to respect staff is not likely to help in any situation.


Rule 2: This is an adult server.
All characters and players must be aged 18 or over. DystopiaRP content is not appropriate for children and this rule is here to support child safety.


Rule 3: This is an English-speaking roleplay server.
Logging into the server indicates you are ready to roleplay with others. 

3.1 	Roleplay involves communication 
All players are expected to communicate primarily in English so everyone can understand one another. 

Players need to use a microphone to communicate verbally IC, unless they cannot do so due to having a disability that prevents this (please put in a ticket to apply for an exemption if this applies to you). Your voice also needs to be able to be understood, e.g. no voice changers which distort your voice to the point no one can understand what you are saying. 

3.2 	Stay in character
While IC you should remain in character at ALL times. The only exception to this is if a staff member has taken you aside to discuss an issue and the staff member has introduced themselves as DystopiaRP staff.  

3.3 	Avoid Fail Roleplay (FailRP)
FailRP includes any actions IC that negatively impact immersion, including engaging in behaviour that makes no sense for your character, that does not value your character’s life or that is highly unrealistic. A number of DystopiaRP’s rules focus on the importance of avoiding FailRP.

3.4	Being AFK
You should avoid being AFK while IC. AFK players in public spaces break immersion for others. If your character is found AFK, they and their belongings are at the mercy of those around them, e.g. police may search AFK players if they have cause to and confiscate illegal items, or AFK players may be kidnapped by someone who requires a hostage. To avoid these risks where possible, log out instead of being AFK while IC.


Rule 4: You should always place value on your character’s life.
If you do not act in a way which values your character’s life, you are engaging in FailRP. Some examples of this include: 
Ignoring immediate threats to your life (e.g. not following instructions when there is a gun pointed at you at close range and you are not holding a weapon)
Taking unnecessary risks that will likely result in serious injury or death to your character (e.g. jumping from a great height without safety equipment, purposely driving into a fuel tank)
Do not engage in FailRP to avoid RP and appropriate story consequences, doing so may result in consequences both IC (loss of resources) and OOC (warning or ban). 


Rule 5: You should RP your injuries. 
Always attempt to realistically RP out any injuries or pain your character is experiencing, especially when being assisted by ambulance officers and after assistance has occurred. Running away as if you were 100% healthy after being revived or assisted is FailRP (let the Ambos have a chance to RP with you).


Rule 6: Behaviour and knowledge after being “killed” (New Life Rules)
The appropriate behaviour and knowledge of a character after they are downed can be different, depending on how they are revived and the storylines around their demise.

6.1	Teleported to Hospital 
If your character dies and you choose to respawn (this is a teleport direct to hospital), they do not have any personal recollection of the specific events leading up to their demise and cannot use any information obtained in that time. Your character also cannot return to the area where their death occurred until the RP scene in that area has concluded or 30 minutes has passed - whichever of these is longer. Your character can explain they are avoiding a specific area for this reason by saying they have a “bad feeling” about that place or that they are experiencing “PTSD”.

6.2	Taken to hospital by another player (including Police)
If your character dies and their body is taken to hospital for treatment, they do not have any personal recollection of the specific events leading up to their demise. Your character also cannot return to the area where their death occurred until the RP scene in that area has concluded or 30 minutes has passed - whichever of these is longer. Your character can explain they are avoiding a specific area for this reason by saying they have a “bad feeling” about that place or that they are experiencing “PTSD”. The person who took you to hospital may choose to tell you what they witnessed, however your character may or may not believe this account. 

6.3	Revived by Medicore Ambulance Officers 
If your character is downed and is then revived by an Ambulance Officer, you should follow all instructions given by the Ambulance Officers, including directions to go to hospital for further treatment. You may choose to have your character personally remember all events that occurred while they were conscious prior to being downed. If taken from the area, your character cannot return to this area until the RP scene in that area has concluded. Your character can explain they are avoiding a specific area for this reason by saying they have a “bad feeling” about that place or that they are experiencing “PTSD”.

6.4	Revived by the local (NPC) medic
If your character is downed and is then revived on scene by the local medic, you must go with them to the hospital. Following your arrival at the hospital, you may choose to have your character remember all events that occurred while they were conscious prior to being downed. Your character cannot return to the area you were downed until the RP scene in the area has concluded. Your character can explain they are avoiding a specific area for this reason by saying they have a “bad feeling” about that place or that they are experiencing “PTSD”. 

6.5	When enough is enough
When downed in a conflict situation, consider whether the storyline for that particular conflict has now run its course and you should move on to something different to progress your RP. 


Rule 7: Treat downed bodies appropriately
Old rule:
When a player is downed, you must treat the player’s body with respect. This means you should not verbally or physically abuse the body any further - it is not conscious and you have no reason to do so. 

In terms of physically moving bodies, you are permitted to move a body but must follow these rules if doing so: 
You may take a body to the hospital for treatment if there is a RP reason to do this rather than waiting for Medicore officers to arrive on scene (this would usually only apply if your character is not hostile towards the other player).
You may move the body a short distance in order to “cover your tracks” from police or others - if doing this you cannot use a vehicle to move the body and you can only interact with the body for 1 minute following the player being downed. After 1 minute, all players must leave the body and no longer interact with it in any way. 
 
New rule:
When a player is downed, you must treat the player’s body with respect. This means you should not verbally or physically abuse the body any further - it is not conscious and you have no reason to do so. 

In terms of physically moving bodies, you are not permitted to move a downed body, with the only exception to this being if you are helping another character to get to hospital for treatment.

Players are also not allowed to purposefully interfere with other players receiving medical treatment, whether from the local medic or Medicore officers.


Rule 8: Random Death Match (RDM) - don’t do it.

Randomly killing other players without prior RP is not allowed. Outside of designated hot zones (e.g. airdrop events in a specified location), any violence should be for RP reasons and the other player(s) should be given the chance to try to avoid violence, e.g. by offering up something of worth, being taken hostage, apologising. This does not mean that whatever is offered has to be accepted, but rather that some genuine roleplay interaction should occur to give any violence some meaning.

8.1	Vehicle Death Match (VDM) - also don’t do it.

You should not seek to use any vehicle as a weapon, e.g. intentionally trying to hit or ram someone with your car. This is not an engaging form of RP and does not usually give the other party a chance to respond or try to avoid the situation. Deliberately injuring or killing someone by using a vehicle may also breach multiple other rules, including Rule 8 (RDM) and Rule 10 (Powergaming).

8.2	Reports and Bans

If you believe you have been involved in a RDM or VDM incident, you should obtain the player IDs of those involved (by using /ids) and report this by opening a support ticket through the DystopiaRP Discord. When doing so, you should provide evidence of what happened, including clips of what occurred prior to violence occurring. RDM and VDM actions may result in instant permanent bans, this is at the discretion of DystopiaRP staff. 
 

Rule 9: Keep your RP safe for yourself and for the community.

RP is meant to be enjoyed but there are some topics which will stop some people feeling safe and comfortable when engaging in RP. 

To keep DystopiaRP safe and respectful, the following themes are not appropriate for acting out or discussing: 
Sexual harassment, sexual assault or rape of any kind
Suicide or violent self-harm of any kind
Overly graphic sexually explicit erotic role play (ERP)

Breaching Rule 9 is likely to result in an instant permanent ban, this is at the discretion of DystopiaRP staff. 


Rule 10: Do not engage in powergaming.

Powergaming includes anything which involves abusing game mechanics to gain an advantage. Often these actions are unrealistic and also break immersion. Examples of powergaming include: 
abusing bugs or glitches to obtain or do things you otherwise would not be able to; 
doing things which are unrealistic (but possible due to game mechanics or bugs) to gain an advantage, such as being able to listen to conversations through solid walls, abusing emotes to gain a combat advantage or avoid fall damage, or being able to perform unrealistic actions while handcuffed (such as driving); 
combat-logging (logging out to avoid combat or consequences of combat);
logging out to avoid RP consequences or to “game” a situation to your advantage, including logging in again at a different spawn location which gives you an advantage;
exploiting safe zones (e.g. using safe zones to hide from RP consequences, shooting into safe zones);
exploiting a job role within the game to gain an unfair advantage for yourself or another player without explicit approval from the DystopiaRP Admin team (e.g. police or ambulance corruption, AFK payfarming, theft of resources); and
forcing someone into a roleplay without giving them a choice by using game mechanics.

10.1	Using external programs to gain an advantage

Using an external program to gain an advantage, such as an aimbot, is considered powergaming and is not allowed.


10.2	Reporting exploits

Report any exploits or bugs which could be used to gain an advantage through a support ticket on Discord. Players reporting these may be rewarded by staff. 


Rule 11: Do not engage in robbing other players without roleplay.

Robbing solely for profit is not permitted. You should avoid randomly boot checking other players’ cars and chain-robbing. Any attempt to rob another player should only occur after there is reasonable roleplay motivation for this on each occasion.


Rule 12: Your character can only use information they know (No metagaming).

Your character cannot act on information unless they have obtained it IC. Any information obtained by you as a player through Discord, OOC discussions or through watching streams or clips from other players, cannot be used by your character.

12.1	Multiple characters
If you have multiple characters, they cannot provide information or resources to one another. It is recommended that if you play multiple characters that they are not connected to one another, this is to minimise the possibility of metagaming occurring between your characters.

12.2	Watching streams
Do not watch a stream of someone playing in DystopiaRP while you are IC. This goes for watching on a public streaming platform (e.g. Twitch) or privately (Discord servers or through a direct call). If you are found to be watching a stream while IC, staff will assume you are metagaming and you will be banned. 


Rule 13: Keep IC and OOC separate.

Players should not discuss OOC matters when IC - this also relates to rule 3.2 (staying in character) as it breaks immersion. Similarly, IC issues should remain IC and should not filter into OOC communication such as Discord DMs. Players receiving unwanted OOC contact from other players should report this via a support ticket. 

These rules also apply to DystopiaRP staff. Conversations with staff IC should be about moderation issues or player behaviour. Any discussion IC of anything relating to OOC, including player’s personal details is not allowed.
 

Rule 14: Don’t advertise other stuff here. 

Other servers and gaming communities (FiveM, Discord or otherwise) should not be advertised IC or OOC in DystopiaRP spaces, unless specific permission has been given by the Lead Admin. If you would like to seek permission for this, please open a support ticket.
 

Rule 15: These rules may change.

While these rules may be revised from time to time, any substantial change will be flagged to the community through a DystopiaRP Discord announcement. If you wish to suggest any changes to DystopiaRP’s rules, you may raise any suggestions through a support ticket via the Discord. Genuine suggestions only please - trolls will be ignored or banned.

Rule 16: There are more rules. 

There will be additional rules and supporting documents which help ensure RP is fair and enjoyable for the DystopiaRP community. These include criminal guidelines, the police and ambulance handbooks, other business procedures and handbooks, and the DystopiaRP Staff Guidelines. 

There will also be additional policies, including around whitelisting, staff recruitment and content creator support, to ensure these processes are fair and transparent.


Rule 17: Follow the rules, this is your warning.

It is your responsibility to follow these rules and to ensure you understand any changes announced from time to time. If you are found to have breached any of these rules, you may face IC and OOC consequences, up to and including a permanent ban from the server.

 
Reporting Rule Breaks

If you believe another player or group is not following the rules, you can open a support ticket (https://discord.com/channels/1429781610127163457/1429798039907864698) to report this. Include the player ID (use /ids IC) and other relevant information around the potential rule break. You should also include supporting evidence, such as gameplay clips and screenshots. 

If a rule break is impacting current RP, you can also report this in-game by using /report - if you do this, a screenshot of your characters pov at the time you submit will be included automatically.
